Jenny is an experienced tax attorney and business lawyer who practices out of her own law firm, Jenny Coates Law, PLLC. After 20+ years in large law firms in New York City and in Seattle, Jenny vowed that the next firm she worked at would have her name in its title! Jenny’s law practice focuses on cross-border tax (often Canada-US, but other countries as well) as well as domestic tax issues affecting individuals and business entities. Jenny also advises many small business in their formation stages, helping them select the most tax-efficient and appropriate entity for their business needs, making the requisite state and federal filings, and drafting the legal documents. Jenny works with many of the small businesses on Bainbridge Island and loves being a part of this business community. Because of her recent participation in the project to fund placement of a solar energy system on City Hall, Jenny has come to advise a number of people regarding the complex application of federal and state tax credits and incentives to these types of investments, and so now adds Federal Solar and Renewable Energy Credits to her list of specialities. Jennifer also is a write on mergers and acquisition tax issues for Bloomberg Financial. Jenny speaks on international tax and other tax issues to various groups of lawyers and accountants in the regional area.
When not practicing law, Jenny enjoys practicing her mandolin, singing with the Bainbridge Chorale, writing poetry (her poetry has been seen around Bainbridge as part of Poetry Corners and is published in several anthologies and Cascade Magazine) and playing fiery games of pickleball with her family on their pickleball court (they had to ask the realtor what the court was for when they moved here from New York City 6 years ago) . Jenny is married to a classical pianist, Samuel Brodsky, and has a daughter, Cymbeline, who is 11 years old, going on 39. Jenny is grateful for the collegial and inspiring community that OfficeXpats provides to business owners of Bainbridge.
